Police ID man pulled from water in Narragansett

Narragansett, RI-  A man pulled from the water in Narragansett on Tuesday evening has died.  Narragansett Police responded to a call at Hazard Rock at approximately 6:30 pm

Upon arrival, officers spotted a man in the water over 200 feet offshore.  An officer swam to the victim, who was unresponsive.

The victim was transported to South County Hospital and was pronounced dead.

Police have identified him as 64-year-old James Vota of North Providence.

Witnesses told police that they saw Vota slip on the rocks, strike his head, and fall into the water. They say he was sitting on the shore reading prior to the accident.
