Point Judith lighthouse featured on stamp

     The Point Judith lighthouse in Narragansett is being featured on a new postage stamp, as part of the New England Coastal Lighthouses series.  It goes on sale today.

     The first lighthouse at Point Judith was built in 1810 but was destroyed in a hurricane.  The existing lighthouse been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988.        

     The postal service series also features Portland Head Light in Maine; Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Hampshire; Boston Lighthouse in Massachusetts; and New London Harbor Lighthouse in Connecticut.
