WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ Police say a bicyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Warwick.

The bicyclist – whose identity has not been released – is in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police say a car driven by a 45-year-old Warwick woman struck the bicyclist around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Warwick Avenue, a main road in the city.

An investigation indicates the bicyclist was crossing the road at the time.

Police say the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
