Police: cords and wires strung across popular trails with intent to harm

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Police in Newport are warning residents who use a popular bike and hiking path in the city of a possible safety hazard.

According to Newport Police, cords and wires have been strung up across the bike and hiking paths at Miantonomi Park with an intent to harm.

Police said they have received complaints of cords and have removed several of them, placed at various heights from ankle to chest, across the trails

Anyone with information on a potential culprit is asked to contact Newport Police at 401-847-1306.
