PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Police found a man suffering from several stab wounds in a Providence apartment Tuesday night.

Around 11:50 p.m., Providence police were dispatched to the third floor of a Providence apartment on Plainfield Street for a reported shooting. When police arrived they observed several drops of blood in the front and left side entry of the home.

Upon entering the apartment building police also observed several drops of blood in the hallway, walls, and stairs that led to the third floor apartment, according to police.

Several people were waiting outside the apartment to alert police that the victim was in the bathroom.

Police found Bill Segbeyan, 20, bleeding heavily as he held a towel to his face and head, according to the police report.

Segbeyan was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police say further investigation determined that Segbeyan had been stabbed and had sustained multiple wounds to his facial area, left thigh, and both hands.

Dispatch informed police that the caller said a silver hatchback was seen leaving the area towards Cranston.  But police later found no sign of a silver car.

Segbeyan told police that he went outside to meet two men he knew who were going to give him something and that they later got into an altercation.

Police said Segbeyan later became uncooperative once they asked further questions.

Investigators found no evidence of a shooting in the surrounding area even though that was what the initial call was for.
