PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police say a 13-year-old girl was struck by a car on Thursday morning while she was riding a bike to school, rather than taking her usual school bus.

Nearly 9000 students in Providence were left to find other forms of transportation Thursday morning after the school bus drivers went on strike.

Police say the girl was struck on Hope Street on her way to Nathan Bishop Middle School. She suffered a minor injury to her leg and was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

It is unknown at this time if the driver will face charges.

The city has not offered students an alternative for transportation.
