Police identify man pulled from Buttonwoods Beach waters in Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick police on Thursday identified the man who was pulled from the waters of a city beach.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Buttonwoods Beach on City Park Road.

Police said Louis Diffley, 58, was swimming with family and suffered from a medical episode before disappearing in the water.

Maj. Joel Thomas said Diffley’s family tried finding him but were unsuccessful.

On-duty lifeguards were alerted, said Thomas, and started searching for the 58-year-old. He was found a short timer later.

Diffley, who’s from Warwick, was taken to Kent Hospital, where he died.

No further information was immediately released.
