One dead in Monday morning double shooting in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE)- A man died and another was injured after they were shot in Pawtucket early on Monday morning, according to the city’s police department.

Police said that 36-year-old Qudus Kafo was later pronounced dead and 37-year-old Prono Vaz is fighting for his life at Rhode Island Hospital.

The two were shot outside of FabCity Cigar Lounge on Newport Ave just before 1:00a.m., according to Pawtucket Police.

One witness was dropping his girlfriend off nearby when he heard arguing outside the lounge.

“I heard them arguing, I heard gunshots, I saw two people laying on the ground. These days are crazy, you can’t go out anymore,” says the witness.

When police arrived, they found Kafo and Paz with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital.

“I want to say my prayers. I don’t know the kid, but I want to say my prayers to his family. Rest in peace to him,” says the witness.

Police believe that the shooting stemmed from an earlier altercation inside the lounge.

Chris Senecal, manager of Tigger’s Two Breakfast and Lunch says this hits close to home.

“There’s been a lot of trouble over here at the cigar lounge. It’s not the first time these things have happened. There’s been a few fights, and another shooting that was involved over here,” says Senecal.

Tigger’s has been around for over 10 years, and Senecal says that the area is only getting more dangerous.
