One person is in custody after a teenager from Taunton was shot in a park Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the 17-year-old was walking with his girlfriend at Hopewell Park around 1 p.m. when a 16-year-old male approached them. Words were exchanged between the two males before the 16-year-old shot the teen at least three times.

"I was in the house and I heard some screaming and I came outside, obviously very concerned for the children," said witness, Lori Salvia.

The shooter was arrested at his home not far from the scene. There is no word yet on the charges he is facing.

The victim’s girlfriend was not injured.

Coyle Cassidy High School was put on lockdown while police investigated.
