Police investigate shooting in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Providence police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday night in Providence.

Around 8:45 p.m., police were alerted that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police learned that the shooting had taken place in the vicinity of Smith Street and Chalkstone Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found two live rounds, two shell casings, and blood on the ground in the parking lot between GI Joes Convenience Store and The Mandarin Garden.

Authorities were told by witnesses who were outside at the time, that they heard loud banging noises, and saw the victim lying on the ground.  They were able to transport the victim to Rhode Island Hospital.

Detectives are still investigating, and no one has been apprehended at this time.
