Police investigating after 66-year-old man found shot dead inside Seekonk apartment

SEEKONK, MASS (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police and the Seekonk Police Department are actively investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday night inside of an apartment in Seekonk.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, police responded to 101 Forsyth Circle just before 10 p.m. after reports of shots fired.

When first responders arrived, they found 66-year-old Joseph Housley of Seekonk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The apartment is located inside Greenbrier Village, and residents say it’s typically quiet and safe there. The building the victim lived in, residents say, was for people aged 55 and older.

“I’ve been here for almost 2 years now and there’s nothing really, it’s really safe. I feel safe walking around here at night even,” said resident Kim Brown.

Residents Lana Tramont and Sydney Delmastro told ABC6 they heard the gunshot but thought it was a firework.

“I was actually at home at the time, I had just come in from a walk and I just heard this boom and I assumed it was like a firework because Fourth of July was just happening,” Delmastro said. “It was crazy when I learned this morning that it was, somebody was shot. It’s very shocking.”

“As soon as we heard the news, we kind of assumed it was the gunshot,” said Tramont. “It freaked everybody out, especially my family. We literally thought maybe we shouldn’t even go outside.”

Delmastro said detectives knocked on her door Wednesday morning, asking for surveillance footage.

“People with the Ring doorbells that have the cameras on them, they were trying to see if they could get any footage of what happened last night.”

She said it was then when police told her the shooting was the result of a dispute between a father and his son.

“He said he arrested the person who murdered the dad. I think it was a father and son argument that happened, and the son ended up shooting the father,” Delmastro said. “I’m very surprised that something like an argument can come to that. I’m just super shocked and scared.”

Seekonk Police said no one has been arrested yet, and the investigation is active and ongoing.
