Police investigating after woman was shot in the hand

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police say an 18-year-old woman was shot in the hand while walking home from a house party early Sunday morning.

Police say they received a report of shots fired just after 2 a.m. on Sunday.  They say officers found the scene of where the shots were fired near Veazie and Shiloh Streets.

Just before 9 a.m., officers were called to Roger Williams Emergency Room for a woman who was healing from a gunshot wound.

The victim told detectives that she was extremely intoxicated while walking home from a party, near Douglas Avenue and Berkshire Street around 1 a.m.

The victim said she heard gunfire, and realized her left hand was hit by a bullet.  Due to being intoxicated, she could not recall where the house was, only that it was in the Smith Hill neighborhood.

She believes the gunshots came from an unknown vehicle.

Providence Police are investigating.
