Police investigating alleged sexual assault on Block Island over holiday weekend

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island State Police confirmed they are investigating an alleged sexual assault that happened on Block Island over the holiday weekend.

Maj. Laurie Ludovici said the investigation is stemming from an incident that happened on July 4.

Ludovici did not disclose where on the island the alleged assault happened and referred all other inquiries to the town of New Shoreham.

During a council meeting Tuesday night, interim Police Chief Peter Chabot said that there are a couple of ongoing investigations being handled by New Shoreham Police with the assistance of state police.

Chabot did not specify on what those open investigations were related to.
