Police investigating death of married couple in Lincoln as ‘suspicious’

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police and Lincoln Police are investigating two suspicious deaths in the first-floor apartment of a multi-family home on Main Street in the Manville section of town.

According to Lincoln Police Captain Philip Gould, a 911 call came in around 8:15 a.m. Thursday, reporting a disturbance at the home. When officers arrived, they found a woman dead and a man significantly injured.

The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he later died.

Lincoln Police said the two deceased were a married couple living on the first-floor apartment, based on witness information.

Police are waiting on the medical examiner before sharing what kind of injuries the couple sustained.

Police are also not releasing the names or ages of the victims as they work to notify family members.

“I just, I feel terrible. I mean, it’s just so shocking,” said Allie Hall, a woman who lives across the street.

Hall said she knew the woman victim and saw her Thursday morning in what might have been her final minutes.

“I just had a neighborly relationship. We would talk everyone once and a while, just friendly. This morning I saw her at 7 coming out to let their cat back in. Just kinda waved or whatever, didn’t really talk to her. But then an hour later there were police everywhere.”

She called the situation bizarre, and said the neighborhood is typically quiet. She said it wasn’t until she saw the lights from an ambulance in her window that she knew something had happened.

“I think the most bizarre part is that I saw her at 7, and I’ve been told that the initial 911 call was around 8 o’clock. So, I just, I can’t imagine what happened within that hour that would lead to this,” Hall said.

She now wonders if she should be fearing for her safety.

“I want to know what happened because it’s alarming and I need to kind of know whether this is something we should all be concerned about.”
