Police Investigating Shooting in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Police are trying to figure out how a Coventry man was shot near Providence College Wednesday night after witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the attack.

Providence police Major Thomas Oates III says 20-year-old Joseph Monteiro claimed two men pulled up alongside him as he was walking to a friend's house just after 9 p.m., got out of the car,
restrained him with zip ties and shot him three times. His injuries are non-life threatening.

About 90 minutes later, Oates says police were called to the home Monteiro was walking to prior to being attacked. Oates says residents Joseph Marwol and Sally Mom, both 25, told investigators
they were inside the home with Monteiro when they were attacked by three men in a home invasion and robbery.
