UPDATED: Vigil held in honor of Providence shooting victim
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Friends and family gathered to mourn the loss of 28-year-old Carlos Rivera, the Providence man who was shot and killed inside his Cranston Street apartment early Monday morning.
Friends tell ABC6 say Rivera was a good friend and father, who loved his family. They say, he also loved music and was an entrepreneur starting his own company. He served as the CEO and Co-founder of Strictly about Music Recordz and Strictly about Money Clothing.
Police responded to the Cranston Street apartment around 2 a.m. Monday, where they found the victim suffering from a gun shot wound. He later died at the scene.
"We are investigating it now. It is a murder," says Providence Police Major David Lapatin.
Major Lapatin says, there were several people home some of those possibly children when the victim was shot. No one else was injured.
"We believe that the shooter knew who he was going after, who his target was," Major Lapatin adds.
This shooting comes just two weeks after a shooting outside "Out 27 Sports Bar and Grill" located just across the street from the apartment. A 22-year-old man was shot in the parking lot while leaving. The bar voluntarily shut down after the attack.
"You have to be more safer than sorry, like I said before. But, this is just shocking actually. You’ve got to not go out too late at night and be safe," says neighbor Lena Lopez.
