Police issue warrants for two suspects in shooting outside Central Falls High School

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) – Central Falls Police have issued two arrest warrants for suspects they believe were involved in Wednesday’s shooting outside of Central Falls High School.

Police are looking for Izaiha Ortiz, 18, and Ian Melendez, 21, who they say fired shots outside of the high school during school hours.

Police are also searching for a third suspect who they say was recording the crime with his phone.

No one was injured in the shooting, but it prompted a lockdown at the high school and middle school.

Officers responded to the corner of Illinois Street and Summer Street Wednesday morning to reports of shots fired. They said a witness saw three male suspects disperse after the shots were fired, fleeing in different directions.

Two suspects ran South on Illinois Street and then West on Rand Street, while the third ran East on Summer Street and then south on Washington Street.

Police do not believe anybody inside the school was a target.

Anybody with information is urged to contact Det. Jeff Araujo at 401-616-2516 or jaraujo@cfpd.centralfallsri.gov.
