Police: Johnston Man Confesses To Wife’s Death
Police tell ABC6 News that a Johnston, Rhode Island man has confessed to killing his common-law wife by trying to dispose of her body in a fireplace.
Johnston Deputy Police Chief David DeCesare says 52-year-old Donald Greenslit of 16 Pershing Road was taken into custody Monday morning after a fire investigation at that location.
Fire crews were called to the location early Monday for a report of a fire. A five-year-old and a three-year-old were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Upon further investigation, DeCesare said Greenslit confessed to stabbing his wife in self-defense and tried to burn her remains.
As of Monday afternoon Greenslit was being held at the Johnston police station pending formal charges.
