ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) – A Rhode Island man was arrested Tuesday for firing multiple shots at a man in Attleboro last month.

A joint investigation by Attleboro Police, Rhode Island and Massachusetts State Police, and members of the U.S. Marshals service, led them to the suspected shooter.

Authorities said the shooter was 19-year-old Mark Socia.

The attempted shooting happened on February 18.

Attleboro police responded to a report of shots fired on Old Richardson Avenue.

An investigation revealed that the victim was followed home by two cars.  When he stopped to confront them, someone inside one of the cars fired several shots at him.

Police said the victim was not injured.

An investigative team of police determined Socia was staying at a Summer Street apartment in Central Falls. After going to the address, authorities discovered a car in the driveway matched the description of the one involved in the attempted shooting.

Officers, troopers, and U.S. Marshals arrested Socia on Tuesday.

After obtaining a search warrant, police searched the apartment and found multiple rounds of ammunition, and three guns. One of the three guns found was a self-assembled handgun with no serial number, made out of different parts usually ordered online.

Socia was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of assault and battery with a firearm
  • Two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
