Police investigate man shot in front of Providence bar early Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A man was shot while leaving a local bar early Sunday morning, according to Providence Police.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. outside of the Sports Tap on Harris Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they found a man who had been shot. He told officers he was in front of the bar when an unknown man started shooting at him.

The victim could not provide police with a description of the suspect or which direction they fled.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is now in intensive care, according to Captain Alyssa DeAndrade of the department’s Licensing Unit. She says his condition is stable.

Captain DeAndrade says no weapon has been recovered.

An emergency Board of Licenses hearing was held Sunday morning. The Board voted to keep the bar closed until they can discuss further on Monday.

Police are investigating and no arrests have been made at this time.
