PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) – A police officer for the town of East Greenwich is on paid administrative leave following his arrest on domestic violence charges.

Police in Pawtucket say 25-year-old Mark Edmonds was arrested last weekend after a woman reported an assault, as well as previous incidents of alleged domestic violence.

Edmonds was released following the arrest and ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday and it was not immediately known if he had retained a lawyer.

East Greenwich’s police Chief Stephen Brown says Edmonds has been on the force for only a few months after previously working for the Brown University police department.
