One dead after shooting in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – Prosecutors name the victim in the deadly New Bedford shooting on Wednesday afternoon.
A gunman killed 36-year-old Adilson Neves of New Bedford.
“He’s very good, he’s a very good kid. He’s very nice,” Neves’ stepmother Julia Lopez said.
Lopez’s husband called her soon before speaking with ABC6; telling her Neves passed away at a local hospital.
He’s the victim of the latest shooting in New Bedford that happened around 3 p.m. on David Street.
“I feel sad. I don’t feel good. I feel so sad,” Lopez said.
Police put down evidence markers at the scene of the shooting in front of a commercial building.
Investigators focused their attention on a light-colored vehicle; with shards of glass on the roadway.
“I have to move. There’s no way I want to stay here. I don’t feel safe around here; at all. It’s crazy, I have two kids and what if we were out here?” Cara Medeiros said.
Police were out at the scene, into the evening, trying to figure out who shot Neves and why.
“I love him, I love him so much. I don’t know,” Lopez said.
There were no suspects in custody in connection to this case as of Wednesday evening, according to police.
ABC6 is returning to the neighborhood and reaching back out to police for additional details.
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
