One man dead following daytime stabbing in Newport neighborhood

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)- One person has died and another person is hurt following a daytime stabbing in Newport on Monday afternoon.

Newport Police say they responded to a 9-1-1 call that stated two men were fighting and bleeding outside a home on Dudley Avenue.

Police say 43-year-old Davide Semenza of Newport was rushed to the hospital but died just hours later from his injuries.

Friends of Semenza shared pictures of the victim with ABC6 News, saying the 43-year-old had just moved to America from Italy, thrilled to pursue his dream of cooking. Friends say he was a father of two girls.

The second male, unnamed, was transported to the hospital with injuries.

This comes just one week after one person was shot dead outside a Cigar Lounge.

The incident remains under investigation.
