Medford, MA (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police said they caught a man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked at the Middlesex Fells Reservation. Police said the suspect did not know the victim.

28-year-old Brady McCue of Medford is charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, kidnapping and four counts of aggravated rape.

The 48-year-old woman was walking in the area of the Leslie Road Trailhead at about 8 a.m. Friday when the attack happened. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates McCue hit the woman in the head with a rock multiple times, then sexually assaulted her. Police said McCue then ran from the scene.

Massachusetts State Police said evidence collected at the scene allowed officers to quickly identify McCue as the suspect. They found him at his home later on Friday and arrested him.

The woman is in stable condition at a Boston hospital. In a statement announcing the arrest, Massachusetts State Police wrote, “Our thoughts remain with the victim tonight and always; over the weeks and months to come we will continue to work with prosecutors to secure justice for her.”

Massachusetts State Police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Winchester Police, Medford Police and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office worked together on the investigation.

Massachusetts State Police also noted that, in the original information released about the assault earlier in the day, it appeared that the assault happened in a section of Middlesex Fells in Winchester, but evidence discovered later showed that it happened in Medford. They said the attack happened near South Border Road on the Winchester/Medford line in Middlesex Fells.

McCue is expected to appear in Somerville District Court on Monday.
