Missing kayaker’s body recovered in Lincoln Woods State Park

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — A spokesperson from RIDEM confirmed to ABC6 News that a man’s body was recovered in the water at Lincoln Woods State Park on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3:00 p.m., two witnesses told officials that they saw a kayak overturn and the kayaker fell into the pond.

Spokesperson Mike Healey said the male victim’s body was recovered just before 5 p.m. about 50 feet from shore. Officials believe the man to be in his 40’s. He died “a considerably distance from the beach in about 15 feet of water,” read in a tweet.

Dive teams from Smithfield and Cumberland were on the scene. North Providence fire was also on the scene. Lincoln fire, rescue, and police also responded to the scene as well.

There were no immediate details if the kayaker was wearing a lifejacket.

This was a multiagency search- including dive teams, and officials from Lincoln, Cumberland, Providence and Smithfield.
