Police Search for Missing New Bedford Man

Police are still searching for a missing man in New Bedford. Pedro Jiminez, 49, went missing Wednesday. The more time that goes by, the more dangerous his family says this could become.

Dangerous because Pedro Jiminez is on a number of medications for psychological disorders. His family says he may be off his medications and now they are pleading for the public's help.

“This is him right here,” Alex Rios says while pointing to a picture of his cousin. “This is him at church. He was doing some preaching there. He's a real church person.”

The last person who saw Pedro Jiminez was a friend from church who says he dropped him off at a bus station. His family has not heard from Pedro since.

“It's been since Wednesday. He's probably off his medication We don't know where he is. If he's eaten or if he's out in the cold,” Rios said.

The family is not only worried that Jiminez is missing, but also because he suffers from a long list of psychological problems.

“He's bipolar and he has schizophrenia,” Beatriz Ortiz, a friend of Jiminez's, said. “And he relies on his medication to stay under control,”

Without his medications, they say it is easy for Jiminez to become disoriented, but that is not the only thing that has them worried.

“He doesn't speak any English at all,” Rios said. “He's the type of person who can't even defend himself.”

New Bedford Police have no leads at the moment. Jiminez's relatives say they cannot help but think the worst, although they are hoping for the best.

“We're all waiting on him. We're all really worried,” Ortiz said. “And we want to know what's happening. We want him home safe.”

Jiminez is believed to be last seen wearing a winter beanie and army pants. If you have any information, please contact the New Bedford Police.
