TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Police patrolled a Taunton neighborhood to search for a robbery suspect overnight Sunday.

ABC 6 News crews at the scene saw police in the area of Danforth Street with weapons. Neighbors in the area said they were woken up by the sound of police officers outside.

“We saw the police running down the driveway over there. I saw one carrying a larger weapon coming down the street,” said Annette Skwarto, a neighbor who was home at the time.

At just after 11 p.m., the search came to the Lynn and Chester streets area of Taunton, where several roads were shut down as police tried to locate the suspect.

Neighbors who spoke with ABC6 say police moved from the state hospital into the neighborhood before neighbors say they finally captured the suspect on Lynn Street.

A neighbor who lives just steps away from where the suspect was taken into custody described the scene.

“Not knowing what was going on… it was kind of scary because the cruiser lights were on but there were no sirens,” said James Strogny, a neighbor who was home at the time.

He says he locked his doors and watched from his window as police searched the area.

“Just parked up in front of the road. It’s a dead-end street and all of a sudden we had lights everywhere,” Strogny said. “To see that many come out armed… you knew something serious was happening.”

Massachusetts State Police K9 Unit assisted in the search. Police have not released any further details at this time.
