2 suspects arrested in Woonsocket home invasion, search continues for third

WOONSOCKET, R.I (WLNE) – Woonsocket police are investigating an armed home invasion that happened on Blackstone Street early Friday morning.

The robbery happened at an apartment around 2:30 a.m., and the two male victims inside were not injured. Police said they were tied up and held at gunpoint while the suspects took money.

A neighbor heard the commotion and called 911.

Three suspects then fled on foot, leading Woonsocket officers on a brief foot pursuit before they jumped into a car and fled.

Police followed the men into Franklin, Massachusetts, where the suspects crashed into a telephone pole. The suspects disappeared into the woods. Neighbors were ordered to shelter in place while investigators searched for the men.

Two of the three men were apprehended and arrested.

The first suspect, Joshua Goncalves, 39, was found “buried like a tick” in the woods, said Franklin Police Chief Thomas Lynch.

A second suspect, Jerome Lopes, 29, turned himself into Woonsocket police. He has been charged with the following:

  • 1st degree Robbery
  • Burglary
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling
  • Kidnapping
  • Conspiracy
  • Impersonating a PO
  • Obstructing a PO
  • Eluding a PO

The third suspect is still on the run.

A joint investigation between Woonsocket and Franklin police is ongoing.
