Police: Suspects assault Fall River man, threaten wife and dog

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – Two Fall River men were arrested Wednesday after assaulting a disabled man and threatening his wife and dog.

Fall River responded to Eastern Avenue around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a group of male subjects fighting.

A 57-year-old man on scene told police he was assaulted by two men while walking with his wife and his dog.

The victim said they were approached by the two males, one of whom threatened to kill and eat the dog.

According to police the victim’s wife entered their apartment building and as he attempted to follow her, the male suspects assaulted him, punching him in the head and face before knocking him to the ground and striking him with his own cane.

Police said the suspects fled after the victim’s girlfriend called the authorities.

The suspects, identified as Joshua Farias, 37, and Brian Souza, 37, both of Fall River, were apprehended close to the scene.

Farias and Souza face the following charges:

  • Assault and Battery Dangerous Weapon,
  • Assault and Battery on a disabled person, and
  • Breaking and Entering in the Daytime for Felony
