Porch pirates arrested in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Police arrested 2 suspects following a series of alleged thefts in Providence, on Tuesday. 

According to the department, officers responded to a house on Mink Road for the report of a stolen package around at 4:25 p.m.

Police say the victim stated his package was stolen from his front porch at approximately 4:08 p.m by a subject wearing a black North Face Sweater, gray sweat pants, white shoes, and a dark hooded sweatshirt. 

Police viewed the porch surveillance video and identified the shoes as a pair of Nike Air Jordan Nick 3’s. 

Police were also notified of a black pickup truck with Massachusetts plates driving around the area of Gentian Avenue, taking packages from porches and driving off. 

According to police, a short time later, a traffic stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle and the male occupant was identified as 45-year-old Nathaniel Robinson of Providence, who was wearing the same clothes as the subject in the video. 

Police were able to locate the items reported stolen from the victim inside the vehicle. 

The driver of the truck was identified as 48-year-old Carolyn Bird, also of Providence.

Both subjects were transported to Central station and were charged with Larceny. 

Police say Robinson was also charged with a Superior Court Bench Warrant.
