Portsmouth, RI (WLNE) – The Portsmouth Chief of Police, Col. Thomas F. Lee, announced his retirement Thursday after six years of service to the town.

Lee will leave the department on July 12.

Prior to being appointed Chief, he served 34 years with the Boston Police Department in which he held numerous high-ranking positions.

“Every good leader works on developing and mentoring his subordinates for that time when it’s their turn to run the organization,” Lee said. “I believe that time has now come. We have many strong young leaders in this agency who can continue driving change in the future and deserve their chance.”
