MIDDLETOWN, RI (WLNE) – Police say they’ve made an arrest in connection to a deadly bicycle vs car accident back in May.

Middletown Police Department’s Detective Division say they continued to work on the case since the accident on May 22 and received several tips from the community.

One anonymous tip led police to a dark blue Honda accord registered to Paul Gomes, 23, of Portsmouth.

Police say evidence recovered at the scene of the crash matched the dark blue Honda registered to Gomes.

The car was located in a salvage yard in East Providence and had damage consistent with the accident, according to police.

On Thursday, police secured a warrant for Gomes charging him with Duty to Stop in an Accident Resulting in Death.

Gomes was taken into custody, held overnight, and transported to Kent County District Court for arraignment Friday morning.

Gomes posted given $20,000 surety bail and is due back in court in August.
