POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: Eversource expects to restore power for most MA residents by 6pm Saturday

New Bedford, MA (WLNE) – Eversource said Thursday that it expects to have power restored to most customers in Massachusetts by 6pm Saturday.

As of 1:30pm Thursday, approximately 178,000 people remained without power after this week’s nor’easter. The areas most affected are New Bedford, Plymouth, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

Eversource said it has already restored power to 245,000 people who lost power during the storm.

In a news release sent out Thursday, Eversource President and CEO Joe Nolan said crews are working tirelessly to get everyone’s power back on.  He said the wind continued through the night, causing outages to keep increasing.

Nolan said, “We had strong, hazardous winds on the Cape through the night, which brought down more trees and electric lines, causing additional power outages. The number of massive trees down is a major factor and has made the job even more challenging, but we remain laser focused on this restoration – which will intensify as the day goes on. We are grateful to our customers for their patience and recognize the tremendous disruption that being without electricity presents.”

Eversource said there are 1,500 crews working around-the-clock, including crews who came in to assist from Canada, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee.
