President Biden pays respects to fallen Capitol officer from Massachusetts

Washington, D.C. (WLNE) – A fallen officer from Massachusetts was recognized for his heroism Tuesday inside the Capitol Rotunda.

Capitol police officer William “Billy” Evans, 41,  was killed when an intruder tried to ram his way onto the capitol grounds with a car earlier this month.

Evans served with the capitol police for 18 years.

“I didn’t know Billy but I knew Billy,” President Joe Biden said Tuesday. “Billy was always the kid when you got in a fight and you were outnumbered 3 to 1 he’d still jump in to help knowing you’d both get beaten up.”

Evans was from North Adams, Massachusetts.
