PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Women & Infants Hospital announced Thursday afternoon Mark Marcantano, the President and Chief Operating Officer is stepping down.

Marcantano has been at the hospital for seven and half years said Care New England President Dennis Keefe.

His resignation will take effect on Friday.

“The past 7-1/2 years at Women & Infants have been extraordinary for me – both personally and professionally.  I have had the opportunity to work alongside and lead one of the finest teams of health care professionals. Together we have made great strides in our commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and the patient experience – and I look to all of you to continue that great work.  The caring that you all demonstrate each and every day is awe-inspiring.  It has been a true honor to lead this great team,” said Mark Marcantano.

Care New England Hospital has planned to merge with Partners Healthcare, announcing back in April after the company has been struggling financially.
