PrideFest hires over 20 private security personnel for Saturday, in addition to Providence police
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Less than one week after 31 members of a white supremacist group were arrested near a northern Idaho pride event, Rhode Island is gearing up to host its own festival.
Over 125,000 parade-goers are expected to celebrate in downtown Providence Saturday. This turn-out is anticipated to be larger than past years because of Providence’s two year hiatus from the pandemic.
Parade-goers can expect amped-up security measures, according to pride organizers. An additional 20 plus private security personnel have been hired by Rhode Island Pride. Plus, Providence police will be patrolling for a crowd this large.
A spokesperson with the Providence Police Department said they did not have a specific number of police that will be patrolling the event, but they “will have utilize all resources necessary to ensure the safety of our citizens and spectators throughout the City”.
