Proposed legislation will allow RI Liquor stores to open on New Years Day

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Rhode Island liquor stores could get some relief as state lawmakers work to allow them to open on New Year’s Day.

Liquor stores are currently not allowed to open on Thanksgiving or New Years Day in Rhode Island.

A bill proposed by North Providence Rep. William O’Brien has passed the House, and heads to the Senate for consideration.

O’Brien says the idea is to help the liquor stores recover from the pandemic.
