Protest Outside Catholic Diocese of Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Two groups that advocate for victims of clergy sex abuse are calling on Roman Catholic Bishop of Providence Thomas Tobin to release the names of all priests who have worked in Rhode Island and have been accused of sex abuse.
The Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests and BishopAccountability.org will gather Monday at 10 a.m. outside the diocesan headquarters.
They'll discuss the case of a man convicted of child molestation in Rhode Island in 2005. They say they recently learned he was a Franciscan priest in other states and they want Tobin to say
whether he ever worked as a priest in Rhode Island.
The diocese has said it is aggressive in its efforts to find victims, including through ads and links on every page of its website.
