Providence police have released the name of the young man shot by an officer on Saturday night.

18-year old Douglas Cooper of Providence was shot and killed by a Providence police officer during a shoot-out.

Col. Hugh Clements said in an interview Monday afternoon that the Providence police department is taking responsibility for firing the fatal shot that killed Cooper.

At the time of the shooting three officers were on duty patrolling area when they suddenly came upon the active shoot out between two rival groups on Canton street.

Two of the three officers fired shots; currently those two officers are now on administrative duty until the investigation is complete.

No arrests have been made just yet, a total for four guns were seized at the scene.

This is the third officer involving shooting in the City of Providence this year.
