Prov. Road Closures

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island transportation officials say there will be road closures in Providence this weekend so crews can safely demolish the old Interstate 195 highway.

The road closure was slated to begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday and last until 11 p.m. on Sunday. The state is closing portions of Dyer and Eddy streets that run along the west bank of the Providence River.

Motorists should follow detours. Pedestrians are asked to use Dyer Street.

The final road closure related to this work is scheduled for July 30 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The state is spending $6.8 million to demolish more than 3,500 feet of the old highway and seven bridges. The highway closed in October 2009.
