PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – It’s all the excitement of New York City, right here in downtown Providence

Mayor Jorge Elorza will be ringing in 2019 at the “Times Square of Providence” with the capital city’s second annual “One Providence” celebration at Skyline at Waterplace.

“As a city we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to be part of a celebration at no cost,” Elorza said.

That’s right, it’s free.

Like last year’s inaugural party, there will be a laser light show, hot chocolate and coffee, food trucks, fireworks, and music.

This year the event will add an actual LED ball that will drop in the middle of Waterplace Park.

Mayor Elorza addressed safety concerns for the more than 5,000 revelers while they’re at the party – as well as on their way home.

“We’re going to have a presence of law enforcement to make sure everyone is feeling safe,” Elorza said. He encourages everyone to take a taxi or Uber, or have a designated driver.

The entire event is sponsored by East Commerce Solutions. No tickets are necessary to attend the free portion of the event, but you can buy tickets to a special black tie gala being held inside Skyline here.
