Providence announces new COVID guidelines

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The mayor of Providence announced new guidelines for gatherings in the city on Tuesday.

Mayor Jorge Elorza asked people in the city to limit social gatherings to five people, instead of the state’s requirement of 10 people.

Event organizers, he said, are also being asked to get a permit if they are going to have a catered event of more than 10 people indoors and more than 25 people outdoors.

The limit in the state was 75 people as of Tuesday.

Catered events could be held without a permit at or below the city’s new recommended numbers.

City officials say the new COVID-19 safe guidelines go into effect on Sunday.

As with the state’s curfew, at this time, police aren’t handing out citations for non-compliance. But, city officials, are encouraging people to comply in order to help stop the spread of the virus.
