Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and executive director of the Providence Boys & Girls Club Nicole Dufresne revealed Tuesday that there will be a free summer program for children and teenagers of Providence.
Dufresne and the Boys & Girls Club approached Mayor Taveras about offering free summer memberships at the South Side Clubhouse to children and teenagers in the area.
“The South Side Clubhouse is an important resource for the community, and we are grateful to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence for extending their resources and their support to even more of our kids,” said Mayor Taveras. “Today's announcement provides another great opportunity for our children and teens to stay active, healthy and engaged this summer.”
The South Side Clubhouse will offer a program for children, ages 6 to 12, Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. The 50 children will have the opportunity to participate in various organized activities.
The Boys & Girls Club will also partner with the Providence Housing Authority to offer a program from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for “Teen Night”. This will offer 50 teenagers per night specialty activities as well as access to the gym and pool.
The program will be offered from now until Friday, August 16.
