Providence City Council Votes Again on Tax Rate Hike

The political back-and-forth over a tax rate hike in the city of Providence seems to have finally come to a head tonight as the city council voted 8-7 in favor of passing the proposed tax levy.

Mayor David Cicilline has pledged not to approve a levy which contains a rate hike for city residents, even though several council members insist that the overall tax burden will actually decrease for most of the city.

The issue becomes more urgent given that without approving a tax levy, the city can't collect any tax revenue at all.
