Providence City Hall evacuated after ‘specific’ threat made

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police have blocked off several streets near city hall after a threat was made Tuesday afternoon.
According to Mayor Brett Smiley’s Press Secretary Josh Estrella, the office was made aware of a threat specific to city hall around 3 p.m. and the building was evacuated until “the threat was cleared.”
“Currently, all staff and visitors have been evacuated from the building and the reports is under investigation by police,” the statement continued.
Police confirm they are in the process of determining the exact nature of the threat.
