Providence families can now apply for city’s $500 a month income pilot program

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Eligible residents can now apply for the city’s guaranteed income pilot program.

Under the program, 110 Providence residents living at or under 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible to apply for the opportunity to receive $500 a month for 12 months.

Applications are due on Aug. 21. Only people who live in Providence and earn at or below 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible to apply.

The city says the 110 families will be randomly selected to receive the monthly $500 payments with the first check going out between October or November. Families with children as well as African Americans and Native Americans will be prioritized. 

The program was funded by donations from philanthropists.
