Providence Fire Fighters will be protecting people from more than just fires this New Years Eve.

The Providence Fire Fighters will be offering safe rides home to people who are out at Providence bars and restaurants tonight. Off-duty Providence firefighters will be offering the rides to those out celebrating as part of their commitment to keep the city safe.

“We are sworn to keep city residents safe, and take that oath very seriously,” said Paul Doughty, President of Providence Fire Fighters IAFF Local 799. “We are launching Safe Night in an effort to cut down on the number of potential drunk driving accidents by offering free rides from Providence bars and restaurants to residents who may not be able to make it home safely on their own.”

This is the first year of the “Safe Ride” program. The rides will be offered from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Any one looking to take advantage of the program is asked to call 401.272.7999 when they need a ride.

The program is fully funded and sponsored by IAFF Local 799.
