PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A fire forced dozens of people from their homes in Providence Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Charles Place Apartments on Charles Street.
The flames and smoke overtook a room on the second floor of the high rise.
“I thought it was a drill, but they started banging on doors. I got up got dressed and got out,” said Barre Dowd; resident of Charles Place Apartments.
Firefighters say the building’s sprinklers may have kept the fire from spreading.
Authorities say no one was hurt and the cause is under investigation.
