Rhode Island State Police have arrested a Providence firefighter for sending nude pictures to a minor.

32-year-old Jason August, of North Kingstown, was charged with indecent solicitation of a minor and electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor, with additional charges pending.

Investigation revealed that August was using the internet to solicit a minor for nude photos, as well as sending photos of himself. An arrest warrant was issued and he was taken into custody Thursday morning without incident. Police seized several pieces of digital media from his residence for forensic analysis. A civil citation was also issued for possession of marijuana.

August is currently employed as a Providence firefighter and is the House Director for Sigma Pi Housing Corporation of Rhode Island on the University of Rhode Island campus. Investigation also revealed that August had been involved in coaching youth basketball three years ago in the state. Police say they do not believe August has had any inappropriate contact with minors during that time.

August was arraigned and held on $2,000 surety bail and ordered not to use the internet except for work purposes, and is not allowed to have any contact with minors. He has also been suspended from the Providence Fire Department without pay.

Anyone with further information regarding August is asked to call the State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at (401) 444-1710.
