Providence firefighters mourn loss of Battalion Chief to occupational cancer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Fire Department said they are mourning the loss of Battalion Chief James Varin on Monday.

The department said Chief Varin served the City of Providence for more than 31 years.

Chief Varin’s line-of-duty death is attributed to occupational cancer.

“Please keep his family in your thoughts. Arrangements will be released when available,” the release read.
